Best Man Duty #7

Previous episodes of Best Man Duty Some things in life happen that return calm to troubled waters. These things return ease to unease and bring a hopeful kind of feeling when things seem not to be moving the way we want. They bring a fresh breath of air and a needed sense of redirection. These same things just give one a sort of much needed distraction from the issues one face, some of which are avoidable. Before I start all the motivational crap, let me whisper to you that Best Girl sneaked right back through the channel I expected to reconnect with her when I was not even watching or looking. I am the one who is virtually married to my smart phone, always chatting, reading, sending and receiving mails, playing games, and doing virtually everything on it. The first chat I had with her however revealed that we were…

Previous episodes of Best Man Duty I looked at Queen’s sleeping form and smiled. Oh, my Queen, the exact paragon of beauty at whose sight heads turn and men drool. She never stopped making me giddy with excitement anytime I reminisce on her positive impact on my drama-filled life. This morning was no exception. She lay peacefully, like a baby without any bother in the world. Despite the very bad argument we had the previous night, her hand hung tightly across my chest. No matter how heated our regular disagreements, she would hold me tight as if something or someone was going to steal me from her side whenever she was sleeping over. Much as I have come to appreciate what Queen means to me and how she has steadied the turbulence in my life, there was the nagging issue of regular disagreements. We hardly stayed a week without avoidable…

Read Episodes 1-3 of Best Man Duty The hall was illuminated enough for each person to see the other. It smelt fresh with different perfumes. How the clan made it happen in so short a time was a mystery but this was looking every deal the ideal after party. I saw a few faces from the wedding lazing around, shaking to the music. I could trust my clan to plan a social gathering that would take others five months in fifteen minutes. With what welcomed me to the hotel hall, I knew instantly that it was going to be an interesting evening that could swing any way. That was no surprise anyway. There was Mike and his fellow party rocker, Dele. The logistics got sorted and they had the couple bring people together. That was not really a huge task as there were still friends in the hotels booked. “Here…

Best Man Duty #3

Read older episodes of Best Man Duty  The sons of bottle just started their yeye after party when I walked into the hotel hall. There is no way I would not recognize the voice of a tipsy Femi, dude always believed he could replace the blood in his veins with alcohol but a few drops always got him on the wrong side. It was that shriek of his that welcomed me. “All hail today’s best man. The idiot who Dorothy gave the gift of a very pretty girl yet could not convince her to attend this august night out with the clan” The rest burst into fits of laughter. Farouk was the worst, with his wickedly irritating laughter. His was a different laugh for a different situation. The moment he laughed, I knew it was his most yab-laced one. I just did not look at any of them. I had…

Good evening! Today, I bring you something new from one of us. A good friend whose comments you have seen here on the regular. He’s always been supportive; not just to me but to all the writers featured here. And when he drops a comment, he doesn’t leave one-liners. He always analyzes each scene and character. Here’s introducing Seye! And he comes with Best Man Duty. Please, enjoy, drop a comment and share. . . . . . . . Adjusting my gold coloured bow tie, I looked around the well-lit sitting area reserved for the couple and the train. The scenery already won me over: fresh rose flowers, a sweet creamy smell, the lighting was superb and the interior of the Church was what I call ‘splendide’. The walls, immaculately white coloured, matched with the POP ceiling. The whole scenery was Edenic, the exact one needed for a wedding. I…
