The Immortals’ Code #23

VICTOR’S APARTMENT “Why didn’t you tell me you were leaving?” Patricia’s eyes held in Victor’s turned moist at his question. This was a man she loved. A man who had shown more than a few times that he could be relied on. Yet, she couldn’t trust him. She couldn’t trust anyone. And it wasn’t for the fact that she felt anyone could easily betray her; it was that Samuel could get anyone to do anything, including betray their loved ones. For that reason, she kept her plans to herself. Not even Victor whose body she had intimately known on several occasions. “Or don’t you trust me, Tricia?” Victor’s stare went deeper but Patricia let her eyes down. “You’re right. I should not be trusted.” He tried to take her hand but held back. He moved away from her and chose a wall in his small sitting room that had a…

The Immortals’ Code #22

NATIONAL THEATER, LAGOS The Assistant Commissioner of Police of the Lagos State police force stormed into the theater, followed by a couple of uniformed policemen. Within, they found another team of policemen discussing in low tones over the dead bodies of nine people on the floor, each with a bullet hole either on the head or chest. The policemen broke away and saluted the ACP as he walked in. “Who is in charge, here?” a baritone voice from cigarette-stained lips demanded. Etim, a young, roughly-dressed, eager-to-please but watchful plainclothes policeman rushed forward and saluted. “Sir!” “What are these bodies still doing here?” “Sir, you said you wanted to see for yourself–” “Get them out!” Etim nodded at junior officers and they began evacuating the dead bodies. “I’m just coming from Ibadan,” the ACP revealed. “In short, I was called out of my brother’s wedding. Debrief me on the events.” “The…

The Immortals’ Code #21

Last week’s episode brought us to the end of the first part of The Immortals’ Code. This was where I stopped the last time but have no worries, the story continues. This second part is titled The Rise of the Cabal. It takes you back to the beginning where men were still boys. The story is interwoven with For Better, For Worse. Enjoy. It has only just begun… CHARYBDIS HOTEL AND RESTAURANT/ 1978 Emem had never seen anything like the room where she stood. It was a strange-looking restaurant but it was also inviting to the eyes. She had no idea what the floor was made of. It sounded like wood beneath her platform shoes, although it shone like brown glass. She looked up at the ceiling which held a large, green boat that covered most of it and she feared that it could drop down on unsuspecting diners at any…

But allow me refresh your mind a little… Leonel has just gotten dumped by Kyenpia who is mad at him for beating Ishi up and leaving him in a critical state. But Leonel has his reasons, seeing that Ishi is the weakest link on the opposing side that wants to see the Cabal down. The Light Virus created by Doctor B which hold the frame for the new Nigeria that Captain and his men want to rebuild after the destruction of the old one, is in Ishi’s care. Hence, Leonel’s prompt action to take him out of the picture. Bloodbath is about to be unleashed and 43 is doing everything to see it not happen. The Cabal are not playing either. They have…

The Immortals’ Code #19

A FEW MINUTES BEFORE ISHI WAS KIDNAPPED/ ISHI’S NEIGHBORHOOD “Send me a picture of what you’re wearing, baby. I’ve had a rough day and I need to ease my mind.” “You’re such a perv, Leo. I’m pregnant. That shouldn’t turn you on in any way. Besides, I’m tying that wrapper you don’t like.” “Nice.” Leonel smiled. He was sitting in his Jaguar XF across the street from Ishi’s house. With one hand typing a message and the other holding a burger, he kept Kyenpia on the line via the car’s handsfree. “So I read this stuff on the internet about something that can help your difficult pregnancy…” “Yeah? What?” “Don’t laugh.” Leonel chuckled. “I already suspect that it’s something nasty.” “Semen. Taken orally.” Kyenpia hissed. “Didn’t I just call you a pervert?” “It also helps induce labor too.” “Leonel, it’s never ever gonna happen. “Hey, I didn’t make it up.…

The Immortals’ Code #18

ELYON VILLA/ IGWE’S PRIVATE QUARTERS The weather was too cold for Igwe but he was determined to take his evening walk. Dressed in warm clothes, he strode out of his bedroom. An armed guard was standing in the sitting room when he came out and Igwe looked him over intolerantly. “What are you doing here? Where’s Maxwell?” “He asked me to take his place, Your Excellency.” “Please leave.” “Yes, sir.” Igwe watched him leave before he also made his way out. In the anteroom he could hear voices coming from the entrance area that was manned by security guards. The voices belonged to Maxwell and Jamila, Captain’s twin sister. They didn’t sound happy. Igwe strained his ears to listen to their conversation but he caught nothing much. He waited for a short while before they both walked in. He could see on their faces that they were ready to hide…

The Immortals’ Code #17

Read Episode 16 Of The Immortals’ Code ISHI’S RESIDENCE Ishi was on the most comfortable couch in the sitting room, his faced turned up to the ceiling. The television was on and tuned to a popular news channel but the volume was turned down. He was dressed for work even though he had no desire to leave his house. There was, by and large, no push in him to do anything else. He felt weak in his bones and joints and tried hard to do away with the tremors coursing through him like mild electric shocks. He had been that way since he left Victor’s place in Ogombo. The load of information he got and Victor’s suicide left him dazed. Etim and Lanre had assured him that Victor was half-rambling and most of the things he predicted were not going to come true, especially the sequence of events following…

The Immortals’ Code #16

“Has anyone here heard of Bloodbath?” Lanre mumbled after Victor threw his question. “It was written severally on the planes and stars. What is it?” Victor scratched his beard. “The question you should ask is who. Who are they?” He stopped for a drink from his keg. “Is it me or this palmwine tastes like it’s a week old?” “Victor…” Etim rubbed his eyes. “We’re running out of time.” “You people think the motives of the Cabal are bad? I can imagine the shame on your faces when you talk about them; the spurn when you think about what your fathers are doing. By all definition, they are ruthless but their motives…their conclusion will serve us well in the end.” “How can you say that?” David frowned. “Bloodbath is a militia in the Cabal. There are two others but Bloodbath is the terrorist wing, a militia of men and women…

The Immortals’ Code #15

It was well past one in the morning when Captain finally turned in. His bedroom had been pre-cooled for him and he switched off the air conditioner the moment he walked in. He didn’t bother to turn on the lights as he rested his back on the bed and stared up at the ceiling. “Hope you didn’t miss me too much?” he asked the form that lay in the nude beside him. “How did the meeting go?” Emem inquired and Captain turned. She seemed to be floating over the cool blue of the bedspread. He sat up and worshipped her with his eyes, fancying himself a magician that had succeeded in making his subject levitate. A voice prodded him to touch her but he was afraid she would vanish if he did. Still he was tempted. As he pondered over it, she petered out from his view and took a…
