Adventures Of Kola Onifoto – Katsina Love o

During my travel up the north, I visited the president’s state for some hours, my friends and I went to their emir’s palace in Katsina; same way we visited all the palaces in all the states we traveled to. We got to the palace around 11a.m.. We talked to some of the guards and they allowed us take pictures around, then I sighted some kids playing a deflated football. My childhood memories flashed instantly, I know the pain of playing a bad football and I watched the kids for a while and I also discovered how their attention was divided as the ball made it frustrating for them to play.. I called the oldest kid, I asked if he could speak English and he replied NO, I smiled at him and said “you just spoke English. How much is going to buy a new ball for you guys?” He replied “one thousand…

IANS Valentine Special

Happy Valentine’s Day…in advance! I’m sure you’ve been wondering where all the writers on this blog have gone to. Hmmm… Tomi and I have been busy on personal projects and haven’t had time with The Darker Berry. Olajumoke is busy as well. She sends her regrets. Fatimah will be back next week. Ibukunwrites has issues with her laptop. Once it’s fixed, she will return. Seye will be back soon too. Hard times have hit all of us. We can no longer sit comfortably and write as we used to and money will come. We have to take on extra jobs to get the income flowing. Hence, it’s not as easy and fun as it used to be. Please, bear with us. But in the spirit of the love season, I am giving you guys a double dose of It’s Another Saturday on Monday and Tuesday. Don’t miss it! One of…

Novocaine Knights #24

Previous Episodes GENESIS These days it rained all the time. Especially in the mornings. It always began the same—dark clouds, distant thunders, brief bursts of directionless winds—with a harmless drizzle. And then the downpour would follow, bringing everything to a standstill, from traffic to happy tempers. Genesis had not been fraught by any of this; for three days she floated in love clouds created by her beau. They had been lost in some resort a little away from the flurry of the metropolitan. Dominic’s initial plan was to take her out of the country but she had seen the world already and wasn’t quite excited about traveling. In addition, Dominic had revealed a few things prior to the getaway that put her out of the mood for a trip. It began with a careless announcement of his desire to fully go into politics. “You don’t have enough problems already, Nick?”…

Only A Flame #ChildNotBride

I sat crouched at a corner of the room… With my arms circled around my folded knees. Another stream of tears rolled effortlessly down my cheeks as I relived the experience. I could still feel his fingers like the gentle slithery movements of a snake as he caressed my body. I closed my eyes….If only I could shut out the images… But No…. They were there… Refusing to leave…They came with such vivid clarity! Images of flailing arms … Fighting to keep away the evil that loomed above me. I remembered trying to scream… But I couldn’t hear the sound of my own voice. Randomly the images came, in no defined order. I recalled a struggle to retain my underwear as groping hands determined to take them off… The sound of a dress being torn… Then I remembered the slap! Like a thunderbolt, the impact had gone through my whole…

To Tame A Virgin #7

Read previous episodes of To Tame A Virgin HERE They say when two hearts are in love they beat as one. Or as the modern day writer would put it, ‘no one knew where his heartbeat stopped and hers began.’ That should be the case for Dami and Uyi – two lovers with their hearts pulsing for each other… but why should a lie be forged on these pages? How can one force upon the two lovers a physical bond that did not click in their souls? But sadly, there was one heart beating for the other the morning after. While Uyi went to sleep after feral and passionate lovemaking, Dami stayed awake, her eyes to the ceiling with a dreamy look in them. It seemed she had fallen in love on speedial. Uyi had to be the one. At first she had feared that he would get mad at her…

Dear Writer

I have not done a totally random post in a while, so I have decided to sit before my laptop and write this because it has been piling up in my head for some time now. And after a little research, I think it’s time to unload the crappy things you and I have written. Yes, I include myself because I have written crap and might still be found writing crap (may never admit it though). Today, I will not just be dishing out the dirt, I’ll be listing clichés and every other BS that we often have used. In no particular order, I begin: 1.       Tall. Dark. Handsome Punctuated for serious emphasis. He can’t be anything less. *clears throat* For real? Can’t he be short, fair and ugly? Or fat and oily? Or tall and stupid? Or even the lovechild of Whoopi and Segun Arinze? Why must he…

Board on a Ball

Justin shut his eyes and shut the world out. It had been one month following his daughter’s death yet it felt like it had just been yesterday. He was told he would heal, that a time would come when he would begin to smile. They were wrong. He hadn’t healed; in fact he was even more saddened than the day she had died. His state of mind was still lost in her and it was beginning to eat what little was left of his soul. Plainly put, he was going mad. Familiar faces came in and out of the house with food and to clean the place but no one could reach past the force-field around him. All that he loved had been taken away from him in an instant. Why then should he have to give a damn? As he spread out on his bed, his subconscious took over…
