Novocaine Knights #14

LEXUS She was dressed and ready for her date with Dominic. Standing by his classiest car she caught a glimpse of her reflection and felt stupid and utterly ridiculous. Save for her new edgy hairstyle, she didn’t quite appreciate the way Ehi had her in a little black dress, subjected her into fixing artificial nails and made her face up. The housekeeper said she looked beautiful, but she disagreed. She had refused the heels given to her by Ehi and settled for the most girly shoes she had – a pair of pink and ash colored sneakers. Dominic’s chauffer, a young guy in his thirties met up with her in the car park and opened the backdoor for her. She chose the front passenger seat instead. The chauffer shook his head in a smile and went behind the wheels. “Prince, where are we going?” she asked. “The Marquee.” “Huh?” “That’s…

Novocaine Knights #11

GENESIS He was beautiful in his sleep. Nude, a pillow between his legs, twitching eyebrows and a heaving chest gave her some distraction for the morning. She stood by the foot of her bed and watched him as she sipped noodle soup from a bowl held by both hands. Mother’s plans had come to nothing; her spell on both of them, useless. Genesis hadn’t seen the faces of her rapists while she was intimate with Dominic, but she hadn’t seen his face either. In fact, the entire experience could be described as mildly agreeable, and for that, she owed her best friend, Nancy, a huge one. Nancy was Mother’s rogue daughter and had nothing in common with her. She was dark-complexioned, overweight, crass and loud. She ran a hotel where she pimped out all the girls Mother no longer needed. Mother loathed her and the feeling was mutual on her…

Novocaine Knights #5

The mermaid, the whale, My hat falls into the sea. I caress the mermaid, My hat falls into the sea. I lie down with the mermaid, My heart falls into the sea. –Haitian Vodou Chant GENESIS She returned home alone. Kasi had chosen to remain at the club until the sun came up. She met the house in silence as expected. The power was out but the weather was breezy. She stripped out of her clothes, had a warm shower and afterwards, spread a mat over her floor to commence on a ritual she had not done in a while. It went on for almost an hour and towards the end the power came back. Music from the television in the sitting room interrupted her quiet moment and she hurried out to turn it off but met Lexus spread out on one of the couches. An unflattering pair of sunglasses…

Novocaine Knights #4

PREVIOUS EPISODES WURA Not today. Wura groaned and fought hard from stomping her foot in agitation. She was having a bad day already. First, she had had another of her nightmares. Second, Mahmud was yet to call her; it was a week since they last spoke and she had called twice and gotten an engaged line. Third, she was late for church. Fourth, an unsightly zit had popped up above her upper lip. Fifth, her skirt was a little too tight and she didn’t have a replacement. And sixth, her period appeared from the blue, which would explain the fourth and fifth. Jesus, why me? She groaned and took off her stained underwear. She flung it in a bucket in her bathroom and hurried out to the sitting room, a towel around her body. Checking to see that Kasi was nowhere in sight, she called out, “sanitary pad, anyone! Two…

Novocaine Knights #2

This is two episodes in one. Enjoy Previous Episodes KASIOBI There was something about Wura that nettled Kasi. She seemed to have the uncanny gift of speaking to his soul through her music. It was as if she saw into his subconscious when he slept and journeyed into his nightmares just to wake him up with the gift of a perfect song every morning to ease his pain. The irony was that they hardly spoke to each other save for the idle banter they had in the house in the company of their other housemates. None of that mattered to him. He was charmed by her voice; it was the type that could win awards if combined with the right songs and music producer. Kasiobi had tried to get her into his studio to drop her first single but his efforts always met a brick wall. She was fine being…

It’s Another Novocaine Saturday #22

Read all the episodes of It’s Another Novocaine Saturday I’m holding my phone. Restless, I visit Facebook for the fifth time, going through old posts. When I get tired, I stop and pull my laptop close and add a few words to a blog post I’ve been working on for days. I stop after a paragraph and visit my phone again, my eyes darting to the door that leads to the fast food joint I’m chilling in. She is late. Why is she late? Did she change her mind? Is she held in traffic? A couple of uni girls in a corner who before now were taking selfies, are presently throwing glances my way. It’s my reading glasses. I always get female attention when I have them on. Honey says I’m cuter and more approachable with them but who cares about these things? It’s not like one leaves the house…

It’s Another Novocaine Saturday #15

Here’s an announcement to new readers! It’s Another Novociane Saturday is a combination of two separate stories. One of them voted as the best series on Moskedapages by my fans. You would enjoy this sequel better if you start the stories from the beginning. Catch up with It’s Another Saturday here & Novocaine Knights here God bless you! . . . . . . Honey’s call meets me in the middle of a birth. My colleague holds my phone to my ear while I’m severing an umbilical cord. Honey wants to know if I can do dinner at theirs. I reply that I’m up to it. She tells me to wear a nice dress. There would be guests. Okay, I reply, thinking about the little red dress I bought off a colleague last week just to butter up to her and her gang of bitchy nurses. They still hate me…

The Fourth Finger Release Date

Hi Everyone! Hope you’re having a good day? I have read numerous messages from Twitter, Facebook and the comment section concerning the release of The Fourth Finger. I know you guys are anxious as I am. Well, I’m here to let you know that you don’t have to wait anymore. Or rather for much longer. The Fourth Finger will be released on the 31st of July. Save the date! For those of you who understand how tedious it is to write a book, you’ll know that it’s a miracle that I’m churning this one out in two months. Remember it took me over a year to bring out Fish Brain Madhouse? And that’s because there’s a lot involved. I have to do edits, revisions, have someone edit and so forth. And hence, the delay. Thanks for your patience, though. In the meantime, catch up with It’s Another Novocaine Saturday…
