Roses And Thorns #17

Haliru was becoming uneasy. He looked around him, trying to see if his bride was coming. He dabbed his fore-head with a soft towel, as he was visibly sweating, even in the air-conditioned cathedral. Was it possible that Tehilah had changed her mind about marrying him? “Oh no” he gasped. He was not worried about becoming the laughing stock, but he was worried about losing all his dreams; all the dreams of loving her and her child, and building a family with them. His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the heavy oak doors of the cathedral opening. He turned abruptly, with a big smile on his face. Yes, his bride had shown up, or so he thought. “I hope I am not late to the party!” Adara walked up the aisle, with a mischievous smile on her face. “Happy married life, Haliru.” “You were not invited!” Haliru could…

Biyankavitch #7

Archie wasn’t sure he was normal. He was certain his mind was on its way to losing itself. There he sat, in the company of three of the sexiest women he had laid his eyes on, all of them next to nude, but he was miles away from them, his thoughts on Bianca. His mind had been on this undertaking of seeking Bianca at the oddest moments. Thoughts of her would occupy him unexpectedly, forcing him to recall the intimate sessions they had shared. Sometimes they would leave him smiling to himself. Other times, they gave him reason to worry. Why had she suddenly become a distraction? Why did he feel like he constantly needed to be with her? Why did he want to threaten his present existence with fantasies of bolting away to some place with her? This was the night before his wedding, his bachelor’s eve, when he…

Biyankavitch #4

Muna snuck into the Bahago house a little past 4 a.m., after her fifth can of beer began to taste like piss. She wasn’t a drunk, but sometimes she found solace in a can or two. Tonight, she had needed more, looking for that usual relief, but the beer left her empty and sore, and with recollections of what she had done to Archie. Also recollections of her actions after she left his place. She had driven to see her ex who had pinned her to the wall, spread her legs apart as he nailed her while choking her. The sex had given her temporary relief, especially at the point when she almost passed out while at the peak of her orgasm. Afterwards, the emptiness returned. Thoughts of losing Archie for good left her scared. She was more afraid of the shame she was going to face if he pushed…

Stranger In Lagos #5

HALIM “Paul, please stop…” His lips were between mine, his hand underneath my dress, his body pressing into me. Weeks of seduction had led me here – but not as an unwilling subject. On my own, I followed Paul to this hotel room, after falling heedlessly for his charm. I knew it would lead to this but I did nothing to stop it. Now, my hypocritical conscience was ringing a bell in my head as thoughts of Eben crossed my mind. “You know I can’t, Paul.” My words were weak, as was my resistance. I was pushing away from him but halfheartedly. My body had been persuaded into this moment, and I knew that it would take only Eben himself bursting in through the door to stop me from being ravished by Paul. It was affection I had been looking for when Paul came into my life. Although everything seemed…

Love, Your Enemy #2

Read Episode 1 of Love, Your Enemy For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. -Matthew 6 Alice picked out the embarrassing sound of her rumbling stomach. She also felt a prickly sensation in her armpits as the atmosphere around her suddenly turned warm. Her mouth seemed to lose the bulk of its saliva as well. An instant headache hit the side of her head, causing her temporary blurriness. She clutched her iPad with both hands to get a grip on herself but her troubled stomach worsened, leaving her no choice but to hurry out of the church as the senior pastor was just about to deliver the day’s sermon. Dropping her iPad with her best friend, Wemimo, who was seated beside her, Alice sought the nearest exit and sped towards it. The pastor’s voice over the PA system irritated her with each step. When…

It’s Another Novocaine Saturday #24 – Valentine’s Special

Happy Valentine’s Day! Enjoy the long read. For you mushy people, hold your hankies. For you who love pics, there’s enough to go round. Ekene doesn’t celebrate Valentine’s. He believes that every day is love day if you’re in a relationship. And I can’t counter that, being that he has made me feel like I’m in a romantic novel in which he’s the author and I’m the main character. My time with him has been magical. In my grief, he created rainbows and butterflies. Whenever I wake up and I feel like I can’t handle the weight of losing Peace, I would be consoled by the thought of having to pour out my heart to Ekene. For the longest time, I have felt like I owed him, and to pay the debt, I took an entire week to convert the downstairs guestroom into a man cave for him. He has…

It’s Another Novocaine Saturday #22

Read all the episodes of It’s Another Novocaine Saturday I’m holding my phone. Restless, I visit Facebook for the fifth time, going through old posts. When I get tired, I stop and pull my laptop close and add a few words to a blog post I’ve been working on for days. I stop after a paragraph and visit my phone again, my eyes darting to the door that leads to the fast food joint I’m chilling in. She is late. Why is she late? Did she change her mind? Is she held in traffic? A couple of uni girls in a corner who before now were taking selfies, are presently throwing glances my way. It’s my reading glasses. I always get female attention when I have them on. Honey says I’m cuter and more approachable with them but who cares about these things? It’s not like one leaves the house…
