Roses And Thorns #17

Haliru was becoming uneasy. He looked around him, trying to see if his bride was coming. He dabbed his fore-head with a soft towel, as he was visibly sweating, even in the air-conditioned cathedral. Was it possible that Tehilah had changed her mind about marrying him? “Oh no” he gasped. He was not worried about becoming the laughing stock, but he was worried about losing all his dreams; all the dreams of loving her and her child, and building a family with them. His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the heavy oak doors of the cathedral opening. He turned abruptly, with a big smile on his face. Yes, his bride had shown up, or so he thought. “I hope I am not late to the party!” Adara walked up the aisle, with a mischievous smile on her face. “Happy married life, Haliru.” “You were not invited!” Haliru could…

Roses And Thorns #16

‘Roses and Thorns’ is back. I have been away because I have been concentrating on publishing my book. If you want more stories like this, then head over to Okadabooks and search for my two books, ‘Bullets and Roses’ and ‘Fallen Angel’. Thanks for following this story; I have been reading your comments and they are all appreciated. To all Tehilah fans, you rock!                                                *** It was the wedding day of Haliru and Tehilah. The city of Lagos was agog with talks of the impending nuptials. Everyone used Haliru and Tehilah’s pictures as relationship goals. There was no mistaking the intense love Haliru had for Tehilah, it showed in the way he looked at her. He was always caught staring longingly at the chocolate beauty. Tehilah’s dress was designed by Zazi couture, a household name in bridal fashion, with a luxurious flagship store in the heart of Lekki. The dress…

There was something tugging at his mind, but he couldn’t place his finger on it. It had been three weeks since the saga with Tehilah at her house, and since he decided to give up on the feelings he had for her. “Yes it is Tehilah, she is the one tugging at my mind” he thought. He was baffled that just three weeks since Haliru proposed to her, they were getting married. It seemed rushed, and it could only be rushed if they were trying to cover something. “Something like what” he didn’t know he spoke out loud. “What are you talking about?” he heard Onome ask. He didn’t even realize she was in the bedroom with him. She had to answer a call. “When did she begin to take calls she couldn’t take in his presence?” he wondered, not bothering to answer her question. Everything around him was shady,…

As Tehilah walked into Haliru’s office, she couldn’t help, but be scared of the outcome of their meeting. While driving to the office, she had thought out her plan thoroughly. There was only one way to send Wale out of her life and the life of her child and if it meant living with the consequences forever, she did not mind. “He doesn’t deserve this child” she thought, to quiet the raging voice of her conscience. “My favorite woman in the world…” Haliru began the moment Tehilah stepped into his office. Her mere presence flooded his heart with joy and all he wanted to do was kiss her and tell her how much she meant to him, but he knew Tehilah would rebuff him. However, the smile died on Haliru’s lips when he noticed the worry in Tehilah’s eyes. “Haliru, we need to get married” Tehilah dropped the bombshell. Haliru…

It was a new day and Tehilah was looking forward to the meeting with the representatives from the fashion company. She was about to sign a delicious endorsement deal. When she decided to publish her novel, she never imagined that she would become a celebrity through her books, but alas, she was crushing she had not even set for herself. Her life was almost like a fairytales, except for a few thorns among the roses. After donning a bespoke pant suit from Diva Couture, a celebrity clothe brand, and completing her outfit with a pair of Jimmy Choo, she got ready to sign that deal and take pictures while at it. The events of last night were all a distant memory, and even though she was serious about kicking Adara out of the company, it was not on the top of her priority list. Her main focus was getting a…

Wale had just come back from the office and slumped on the chair, when he saw a note on the center table in the living room. He took it and after reading it flung it away. His wife Onome told him she was going on a trip and when she was back, they had to see a marriage counselor. “It is too late to work on this marriage” he muttered to himself and then he switched on the television. The first picture that hit him was that of Tehilah.  She was on the news and they were saying she was pregnant, but before the thought could settle in his mind, there was a flash of Haliru telling the public that he was the father of Tehilah’s baby. “She was cheating on me? How dare she make a fool of me” he flung the television remote controller and began to pace…

“You had no right, Haliru. You had no right” Tehilah said in the coolest voice she could muster. Her anger was boiling up to the brim, but she was trying her hardest to rein it in.  Even in her anger, she could see Haliru’s good intentions, but it didn’t change the fact that he had made things more complicated. If the child was born and looked like Wale, she was going to be in trouble and even her career could be destroyed. It would be the biggest scam since the Buhari government, and she didn’t ask for it. “I just want to help. I have been trying to tell you how much I love you” Haliru turned her to face him. They were in his office, where Tehilah had marched to, with the anger oozing out of her pores. He was surprised that she was speaking so calmly, even though…

The weekend had been the worst in Tehilah’s life. She had never gone through such, not even when she hit rock bottom. How could people sit comfortably in their houses and cast judgment on a person they barely knew? She was angry as she switched on her phone for the first time in days. Haliru had advised that she switched off her phones, but she just couldn’t resist the urge to know what strangers were saying about her. After switching on her phone, the first place she went to was twitter, it had become troll central in Nigeria and she knew if she wanted to find out what everyone was saying, it was on twitter. The first mention was bad. “She talked about powerful women who wanted to change her world, when all she wanted to ever be, was a baby mama. @TehilahWrites” “You don’t know my life, what gives…

Roses And Thorns #9

Haliru and Tehilah went out for a business lunch with some movie makers from the U.S, who wanted to adapt her second novel, at an upscale restaurant on Mbadiwe. After the movie people had gone, Tehilah wanted to say goodbye to Haliru, but the latter waved her back down.   “Is something wrong?” Tehilah watched his face, which was cloudy, like he was fighting a battle with himself.    “I am actually fighting a battle inside” he said, as if he had heard Tehilah’s thoughts. “I am wondering if I should say a word or forever hold my peace, now that you are pregnant” Tehilah was taken aback. It was obvious to her that Haliru had seen the news. Would it jeopardize her contract with the publishing company, she wondered. “You know?”   “I wasn’t sure, but it wasn’t something far -fetched, seeing as you are in a committed relationship” Haliru peered into…
