Morayo was busy on her computer at work that morning. The morning everything went wrong. It all started when Kunle had walked into her office. Her secretary had followed him in, an apologetic look on her face. She had dismissed the little woman with a wave of her hand.

“What do you want?” She asked as he sat down uninvited, “I thought I made it clear that I did not want to see you anymore?”

Kunle had a sly smile on his face. He remained silent, his gaze leveled directly at Morayo.

“I said what do you want from me Kunle?” Morayo replied, her voice rising slightly. The very sight of the man, made her blood boil. She could not stand him in the least.

Kunle’s lips parted to reveal a toothy grin. “Patience little Morayo, I will make things clear very soon.”

His phone rang after that and he picked the call with a flourish. “Hello?”

Morayo took that moment to pick her office phone. She’d have security throw this arrogant fool out.

“If that’s security you are calling, I would not advise it,” Kunle said as he turned his phone around for her to see.

The office phone fell from her hand as she saw what was on the screen. Her eyes widened in shock and then closed as she tried to calm herself. She knew Kunle was mad, but this? This was psychotic. What game was this bastard playing?

“Good girl,” Kunle said as he picked up the fallen receiver and replaced it on its mount. “I always knew you were smart.”

“What do you want?” Morayo asked. She failed to keep her panic out of her voice. She grimaced, she didn’t want this mad man to know she was scared.

“I want what I’ve always wanted Morayo.” He said placing his hands on the desk and leaning over it, “I want you. I want us. I want what any sane man wants Morayo.  I want us to be together.”

Morayo swallowed twice before she spoke. This time she was calmer. She had expected this. Kunle was no longer sane. He had devolved into an animal. Nothing more.

“Things can’t go back to how they used to be Kunle,” She said. She pointed at his phone, where the picture of Daniel tied up and gagged on a chair still showed, “As you well know, there is someone I love now.”

Kunle slammed his hands onto the table. “Shut up you stupid whore! What do you know about love? Tell me, what?”

Morayo’s secretary took that moment to peek in.  

“There’s nothing to worry about, Sade,” Morayo said in reply to her secretary’s questioning look. “You can go.”

Sade eyed Kunle and hissed before she closed the door. The small woman’s actions caused Morayo to giggle.

Kunle snarled at her, “I’m glad you still find things amusing Morayo.” He sat back down and crossed his legs, “I’m really glad.”

“Kunle,” Morayo said, panic coated her voice, “What exactly do you want from me? What do I have to do to get you to release Daniel?”

She knew what he would ask for. He wanted only one thing, her body. He wanted that power over her. Her mind raced, she could call security now and have them apprehend Kunle so the cops could come to pick him up. But that would not assure her of Daniel’s safety. Her mind flashed to many movies were the kidnappers harmed their hostages when they didn’t receive instructions from their boss. She could call his bluff, but his actions over the last month and after their breakup revealed how far gone this man was. She struggled to find an answer, any answer at all.

Kunle’s face curled into a nasty smile. “If you refuse to let us go back to how we used to be Morayo.” He drummed his fingers on the table. “Well, I’m a considerate person, let me just have you just one more time. One round of us reliving those days of fucking. You will agree to that won’t you?”

With that he stood up to leave, “come over to my place this evening, you remember where don’t you?”

Segun and Tomi were having the time of their lives that evening. She had taken a leave from work just for this day. It had been in the works for a while. A day for just them. “Let’s get out of here then,” Segun said as he pulled away from her.

Tomi found herself leaping to her feet. They hurried out of the cinema and started laughing when someone said a very loud “thank God” behind them.

They barely made it to the car before they kissed again. This time more passionately. Segun noted that the parking lot was empty in the back of his mind and groaned in appreciation. She made it three steps before the tears began to flow.
