EXT. N.G.I.T OFFICE BUILDING – DAY

INT. RITA’S OFFICE DESK

Stephanie is dressed skimpy as always and catwalks towards

her desk.

MRS. OJO

(almost whispering)

You know she brought in an N800,000

job today.

RITA

N800,000? How?

MRS. OJO

Look we all know how but every time I see you it gives me joy to know that there are still some virtuous young women left in this generation. That’s why we all respect you.

RITA

Aunty, respect is not putting enough food on my table o, because two can play this game she’s playing.

MRS. OJO

My dear, a good name is better than all the money in the world.

RITA

Well, I need to start phoning all my stingy clients again then. I have a deadline to meet.

We see Stephanie walk past again and into Mr. Elumelu’s office.

 

INT. MR ELUMELU’S OFFICE

Stephanie is leaning on the door.

STEPHANIE

Sir, I just wanted to confirm if we are still on for lunch today?

Rita is on the phone.

RITA

That’s fine with me sir. I’ll come by your office tomorrow. Thank you very much.

(Rita turns around on her seat excited)

Mr. Peters, I hope you’re ready for some work ‘cos I’m bringing it in now.

MR. PETERS (O.S.)

Okay o madame Rita, seeing is believing.

RITA

What? Now I know who my enemies are.

General laughter in the office.

Mr. Peters steps up to Rita’s desk.

MR. PETERS

(smiling)

You know I’m your number one fan.

RITA

don’t flatter me, go away from here.

MR. PETERS

I just want you to bring in worth my going out. you know something worth more than a N5,000 job.

Laughter.

RITA

You see?

Rita leaps towards Mr. Peters with a humourous intent to hit

him.

Mr. Peters jumps away and walks off screen. Rita’s phone rings. She picks it up and slumps back into her seat.

Hi Jenny, what’s up?

INT. JENNY’S OFFICE

JENNY

I’m cool. How’s it going at work?

INT. RITA’S OFFICE DESK

RITA

Not good, I’m still thinking of how

to meet my new target.

INT. JENNY’S OFFICE

JENNY

What new target?

INT. RITA’S OFFICE DESK

RITA

Oh. I didn’t tell you? I have to bring in N1million this week or lose my job.

(pause, as Stephanie walks

past)

Seriously, He wasn’t joking.

INT. JENNY’S OFFICE

You’ll make it don’t worry. I’m sure staph is happy now.

INT. RITA’S OFFICE DESK

Rita’s POV

Stephanie and Uche are laughing aloud maliciously looking on and off towards Rita.

RITA (O.S.)

(chuckles)

Let her catch you calling her

staph.

INT. JENNY’S OFFICE

JENNY

That’s what that girl is carrying with the kind of waka she’s doing. Why do you think her parents gave her that name? (laughing) I beg o let me let you work even though I have gist. (pause, listening) No no, I’ll gist you later just work.

INT. RITA’S OFFICE DESK

RITA

Tell me now, you hit jackpot? (pause) Okay what now? Oya just tell me small then we’ll finish up later.

INT. JENNY’S OFFICE

JENNY

Well, there’s this guy that came for Abiola’s birthday and was harassing Dave for my number, so I asked Dave to give him the number yesterday and within minutes the

dude phoned o, in fact we already have a date.

INT. RITA’S OFFICE DESK

RITA

Wow and Dave didn’t tell me. No, no, no, no, we have to save this gist for tonight, it’s too hot for this hot afternoon.

We pull out to an angle on Rita and catch the back view of a MAN, dressed in an expensive suit with pure leather shoes, standing next to Rita’s desk waiting to get her attention. Stephanie walks past behind the man, staring at him lustfully, checking him out from head to toe.

RITA (CONT’D)

I can imagine, anyway I’ll call you

later. Bye.

MAN (O.S.)

Rita.

Rita looks up.

RITA

(smiling)

Yes may I…

(face drops into shock for a moment) Steven. Steven Idoko.

STEVEN

Hi.

INT. N.G.I.T OFFICE HALLWAY

Rita and Steven are standing in the hallway.

RITA (CONT’D)

 (still surprised)

Steve wow. I’m sorry I’m still like beside myself.

STEVEN

(smiling, very calm disposition) Me too.

RITA

Where did you appear from? I mean where have you been? How did you

find me?

STEVEN

All in good time Rita, all in good time but I can tell you this. I’ve been looking for you all over the place especially since I came back into the country some months ago.

RITA

You traveled out?

STEVEN

Yeah, to the States, but I’m back now.

RITA

I can’t believe I’m seeing you right now.

STEVEN

(humorously)

You know, I can’t believe I’m seeing me too.

RITA

(laughing)

You’re still as funny as ever. You haven’t changed.

STEVEN

I’ve changed in more ways than you can imagine. Trust me.

RITA

I’m so sorry I had to change my number and…

STEVEN

You don’t have to explain anything to me, I understand, truly, but if you really want to make up for it, here’s my card.

Steven hands Rita a complimentary card.

STEVEN (CONT’D)

Call me! And we’ll arrange lunch or dinner sometime soon, for old times sake, don’t say No.

RITA

No. I mean yes, I mean I’m not going to say No. (laughs) I’ll call you.

STEVEN

Thanks. I better get going.

RITA

Of course.

Steven starts to walk towards the exit door and turns.

STEVEN

You look great by the way.

RITA

Thanks, you’re not looking bad yourself.
